Position summary
The Dishwasher keeps the kitchen and dining room supplied with clean, sanitized dishware, glassware, utensils, and cookware, and keeps the back of house clean and orderly. This role is the backbone of a smooth service: without a steady flow of clean equipment, the kitchen cannot function. The Dishwasher also supports the team with basic cleaning and, when needed, light prep tasks.
Key responsibilities
  • Scrape, rinse, load, and operate the commercial dishwasher to clean and sanitize dishes, glassware, flatware, pots, pans, and utensils.
  • Hand-wash items that cannot go through the machine, including large cookware and delicate glassware.
  • Sort, stack, and return clean items promptly to their proper stations so the line and dining room never run short.
  • Keep the dish area clean, organized, and free of clutter and standing water throughout the shift.
  • Empty trash and recycling, break down boxes, and take out garbage as needed.
  • Maintain correct water temperature and proper levels of detergent and sanitizer in the dish machine; report any equipment problems.
  • Clean kitchen surfaces, floors, drains, and equipment as assigned, including sweeping and mopping.
  • Assist with putting away deliveries and rotating stock.
  • Support the kitchen with basic prep tasks when time allows and as directed.
  • Follow all health, safety, and sanitation regulations at all times.
  • Complete opening, closing, and deep-cleaning duties as scheduled.

  • Understanding of, or willingness to learn, food-safety and sanitation 
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and punctuality.
  • Ability to work quickly and stay organized during busy service.
  • A team player willing to pitch in wherever needed.
  • Availability to work [evenings, weekends, and holidays] as scheduled.
Physical requirements
The role is physically demanding and performed in a busy kitchen environment. A candidate must be able to:
  • Stand and walk for the entire shift, typically [6–10] hours, often without extended breaks.
  • Lift, carry, and move items weighing up to [50] lbs (racks of dishes, stockpots, trash, deliveries).
  • Perform repetitive motions — loading racks, scrubbing, and reaching — for extended periods.
  • Work with hands in hot water and around steam, cleaning chemicals, and sharp objects while following safety procedures.
  • Bend, stoop, twist, and reach frequently, and work in a warm, humid, and sometimes slippery environment.
  • Tolerate frequent temperature changes between the hot dish area and cold storage areas.
